10 Popular Merchants that Desperately Need a Dedicated Mobile Site
We like to help you get ideas about mobile site development and mobile site design here at the site. We think one of the best ways to do this is through critique. It's imporant to understand what not to do as well as what to do. It's also important to understand why mobile versions of our sites, optimized for mobile users, is so very necessary and the challenges you face in building mobile sites.
Back in the day when all you had to do was worry about the desktop version of a site, you were plagued with the problem of writing code that would render the same on both a mac and a pc. Then you had more than one broswer to worry about – Internet Explorer and Safari. Then Firefox came out, and Chrome and now we have RockMelt and a whole host of other browsers.
Web designers were told to be sure and test their sites in various browsers to make sure they worked in all possible scenarios.
Problem was all those multitude of browsers had to also work on high speed and dialup sites, and they had to be fast enough to hold the attention of the viewers.
They had to also work in various versions of each of those browsers that were constantly being updated. It was hard, I know. Take a moment to wipe the tear of nostalgia from your eye and go ahead, pat yourself on the back. You did it. And you were good at it.
Now take a closer look at mobile. Not only do you have to have a different set of rules and values for your mobile site than your web site, it also has to work on various browsers on various versions on various shapes and sizes of screens on various mobile devices including various phones.
It's a whole 'nother critter. And it's much harder to wrap your brain around.
What is frustrating still to us at Mobile Site Army, is that so many businesses still think they don't even need a mobile optimized site or to employ mobile marketing in their efforts.
This post we found and are sharing helps you see why they are wrong and really do need a mobile site.
